I know all ngs have their idiots but this ng is amazing. There does
appear to be a few sensible and intelligent people here so maybe you
would share with me your theories about this infiltration of scum.
Thanks

Mostly newbies. We all have to start from scratch. Some of them will
eventually progress to becoming quite knowledgeable.

It's exactly the opposite. All other parts of the Usenet have
been taken over by evil brain sucking aliens. This is the last
hideout of brave resistance. And this is our eternal anthem:

Just curious: do you still see messages with subject lines such as
"FREE TIBET!!!"? These are posted by the VBS/Sorry virus.

At the moment I can think of 3 idiots, one of them is a shill, another
one is paranoid and sees hackers everywhere, and the third one mistakes
this newsgroup for a diary. I suggest you just killfile them.

Occasionally a few harmless trolls will pop up here, wreak havoc for
a couple of days and then leave again when they realize that they
aren't impressing anybody. Live with it. :-)

I'd rather call my previous posting a troll.
'Moron' has become such a meaningless word.

Well you see, it is a well known fact the your average preadolescent,
when presented with the "online opportunity" is naturally drawn toward
certain key words or phases. They often have the misconception, or
missassociate these phases with underground or licit activity. When they
are presented with the truth of this misconnection they are often prone
to outbursts of trollish activities, a classic "crash-n-burn" syndrome.

Given time, and a significant lack of attention, these maladjusted net-
citizens will move onto other, far more interesting targets. As time
passes and with a little luck, they will soon grow out of this state and
become just as cobal fearing as the rest of the net...

Oh, I'm not talking about the newbies. This is where they are supposed to
come. I'm talking about the morons with OT posts that are nothing but
rubbish.

Nope.

I have already kill filed 10 or 12 names from this group and I
don't seem to have put much of a dent in them. I gather that at
least one just keeps coming back with different user names. That
person is obviously in need of professional help.

Trolls pop up everywhere. But this seems to be their nest.

Someone is flooding the group by reposting existing posts.
Name filtering isn't the optimum method.

I even respect the basic rules of spelling and grammar!

I am just an old lonesome troll, a long way from home.

Very... But just part of my nature...
The other half is homicidal, that's why I use Xnews.

I don't like OE because it's killfile is far to limited. Xnews allows me
to "kill a troll" by using any combination of headers. So once I kill a
troll they stay dead, as well as any replies made to them.

Since I'm a sport, and I know of some trollies that use Xnews, here's a
sample filter that will make me disappear permanently:

[some interesting stuff]

I guess I'm a pessimist in the short run and an optimist in the long run.
But I would like to stomp these little kids that play stupid games. I don't
think they are getting any discipline at home. Their parents, if they
haven't
ran away, probably think they are so smart because they are using their
computers.
